Myocarditis is an inflammatory disease of the cardiac muscle, caused by infectious and non-infectious etiology, which
may in chronic form lead to dilated cardiomyopathy. Standard therapy of an acute form is based on resting regimen, in
the presence of left ventricular dysfunction it is based on standard heart failure therapy by beta-blockers, angiotensin
converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin receptor antagonists, aldosterone antagonists and symptomatic diuretic
treatment. Specific treatment currently remains a rather experimental en_option. Not only the damage of myocytes plays
role in pathogenesis of myocarditis, but there is also a significant influence of immune and autoimmune reactions of
the organism. From this perspective, the use of immunosuppressive or immunomodulating medications seems to be
a convenient therapeutic en_option.
