Eosinophilic myocarditis (EM) represents a rare form of myocardial inflammation. The etiology of this disease is very
heterogeneous. The most common causes leading to eosinophilia in our geographic area are hypersensitivity or allergic
reactions and hematologic diseases. EM occurs in various clinical presentations, ranging from asymptomatic forms to
life-threatening conditions and sudden cardiac death. Eosinophilia in white blood cell count is usually present in most
patients with EM. Definitive diagnosis of EM can only be established based on histopathological examination of myocardial
tissue samples. Therapy of the disease depends on the underlying etiology. Corticosteroids represent the treatment
mainstay in majority of EM forms.
