Invasive management of patients with acute coronary syndrome is becoming a routine part of everyday clinical practice.
Combination antithrombotic therapies are a key part of this management, particularly in patients after coronary
stent implantation. Clinicians must seek the critical balance between the aggressiveness of antithrombotic therapy
with the risk of hemorrhagic complications on the one hand, and the risk of ischemic complications or stent thrombosis
in insufficient antithrombotic regime on the other. The diversity of clinical situations, as well as the variety of revascularisation
techniques, make antithrombotic therapy quite challenging. A specific issue is to optimise antithrombotic
therapy prior to cardiac or non-cardiac surgery.
