Pregnancy predisposes to arrhythmias and it is likely because of a combination of several factors related to hemodynamic
and hormonal changes and changes in the autonomic nervous system. Pregnancy may contribute to the first
presentation of arrhythmias, or may trigger recurrence of pre-existing arrhythmias that occurred before the pregnancy.
This review presents the occurrence of arrhythmias during pregnancy, their mechanisms and their clinical presentation.
Attention is paid to the general management of arrhythmias during pregnancy and specific management of individual
arrhythmias in pregnancy, focusing on their termination, as well as prevention. We also discuss the possibilities of
the pharmacological antiarrhythmic therapy, and the application of non-pharmacological methods for the treatment
of arrhythmias during pregnancy.
