Echocardiography currently represents a primary method for non-invasive measurement of the right-side heart hemodynamic
parameters and for non-invasive estimation of pulmonary artery pressure. This reliable method for estimating
pulmonary artery pressure is based on the Doppler measurement of peak velocity in the tricuspid regurgitant jet and
the pulmonic regurgitant velocity curve, and on the shape of the systolic velocity curve of the right ventricular outflow
tract. Echocardiography is a key screening tool in the diagnostic algorithm for the evaluation of a patient with suspected
pulmonary artery hypertension. It may help to exclude any secondary causes of pulmonary hypertension and also
allow clinical and hemodynamic monitoring of patients with pulmonary hypertension.
