Cardiac implantable electric devices – CIED – including pacemakers, implantable defibrillators, devices for cardiac resynchronization therapy and implantable ECG loop recorders are reliable and effective tools for managing cardiac rhythm disorders. Implantation rates of these devices are increasing. Multidisciplinary cooperation is needed in the management of patients with CIEDs. Correct interpretation of CIED diagnostics in relation to the patient’s diagnosis, symptoms and actual treatment is of crucial importance. Often, based on CIED diagnostics, modification of medication or catheter ablation for arrhythmias is indicated. Precise knowledge of the device functioning is essential for a correct ECG evaluation. This article aims to present to general cardiologists the basic principles for interpreting CIED’s follow-up data.
