Obesity is currently a global epidemic (pandemic) and the most common chronic preventable metabolic disease. It affects not only adults but also children and adolescents worldwide. At the population level, there is no doubt that overweight/obesity is very closely related to increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. An important role in the development of the relation to cardiovascular complications is played by the regional distribution of adipose tissue (adiposopathy) as well as the accumulation of ectopic adipose tissue in various body organs. Clarifying the relationship between obesity and cardiovascular disease is very important, since improving the cardiovascular disease treatment may eventually be outweighed by the adverse effects of increasing obesity (diabesity) and metabolic syndrome. Our goal should be primary prevention. A legitimate approach is to improve eating habits, increase daily physical activity, improve lifestyle, and reduce body weight. As a prevention, it is advisable to identify those at higher risk of developing cardiometabolic obesity complications.
