Pancreatic cystic tumours are less frequent than solid ones, but not rare; they are frequently diagnosed accidentally and many of them are found asymptomatic at that time. They might induce an attack of acute pancreatitis and/or have potential to become malignant. Thanks to new imaging diagnostic methods they are detected more frequently. Gathered knowledge shows that prevalence of benign pseudocysts is lower in cystic pancreatic formations than expected. Origination of cystic pancreatic formations is conditioned by a range of pathological processes, majority of them is not neoplastic, but approximately 10 % has a neoplastic character, cystic tumours. Cystic tumours created by serous and mucinous structures present all possible stages of cell differentiation and WHO divided them according to biological behaviour to benign, borderline or malignant. Based on imagining criteria it is many times hard to distinguish tumour and non-tumour formations. This is the reason why diagnostics and treatment of these patients is complex and multidisciplinary.
