Treatment of chronic pancreatitis, permanent progressive inflammatory disease of the pancreas, is symptomatic. Its goal is to eliminate the pain and to treat the exocrine and endocrine insufficiency. An important part of the treatment is dietary measures that can alleviate pain, dyspepsia, steatorrhea and diabetes. The deficit of macronutrients in CP is generally known, less importance is attributed to the micronutrients. The article refers in particular to their importance in the treatment of chronic pancreatitis because many of them are important antioxidants. Several studies have shown that adequate intake of micronutrients leads to retreatment or improvement of pain and it decreases the number of relapses in recurrent pancreatitis.
