Live organisms on the Earth mutually influence in various forms. One of the particular forms of symbiosis is also mutualism
when both organisms benefit from mutual living. In a man with several microorganisms such a mutual type of
symbiosis developed at the origination of specific systems, as, e.g. GALT and MALT. This beneficial microflora is created
mainly by probiotics.
Probiotics are a live microbial food supplement, which in the recipient provably favourably influence his/her health. As
natural bioregulators, they help to maintain the balance of the digestive tract ecosystem with various mechanisms and
prevent colonisation of the digestive tract with pathogenic bacteria. Probiotics have antimicrobial, immunomodulatory,
anticancerous, antiallergic and antioxidative properties. In the field in the recent years there occur a lot of new, interesting,
valuable and exact information.
In the paper, there is an overview of some preventive and therapeutical effects of probiotics based on EBM and experimental
work, which may be used in gastroenterology.
We warn about the possibility of occurrence of such preparates, which do not have relevant certification and did not undergo
relevant approval procedures. Therefore, we recommend not only for doctors but also patients before the purchase
and administration to study package inserts to avoid damaging of health or false ineffectiveness of preparations,
which do not meet the definition of probiotics.
