Foreign bodies can be inserted into the vagina, either intentionally or accidentally.
We often encounter random embedded foreign bodies in the vagina in children. In
adults we meet mostly with intentionally embedded foreign bodies in the vagina as
part of sexual intercourse. Injury to the vagina during intercourse are in most cases
not serious ruptures localized mainly in the back of the vaginal vault. They manifest
with vaginal bleeding and lower abdominal pain. Perforation of the vagina with a foreign
body and its penetration into the abdominal cavity is a very serious condition.
The authors present a case of 56-year-old patient with ileus, in whom laparotomy of
the abdominal cavity was performed. Intraoperatively a foreign object was found in
the abdominal cavity, which caused perforation of the back of the vaginal vault with
its subsequent traveling in the small pelvis.
