Approximately 88-95 % of all uterine leiomyomas are „conventional“ leiomyomas.
The remaining proportion comprises histologic subtypes, which show some specific
morphologic features. The authors present a case of a 52-years old woman with
a myomatous uterus which besides „conventional“ leiomyomas also contained two
of their rare histologic subtypes. The first one was an angioleiomyoma. It consisted
of the mixture of a large number of the thick-wall blood vessels and the smooth muscle.
The second one were the leiomyomas with intratumorous lymphocytic infiltration.
In biopsy practice, a coincidence of several different histologic subtypes of the
leiomyomas within a single uterus is a rare finding. Although they probably do not
differ clinically, they may cause a differential-diagnostic pitfalls for a pathologist.
In case of multiple uterine leiomyomas, it is optimal to examine the samples taken
from each tumour lesion microscopically.
