POTENTIAL OF HEALTH TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT, PATIENTS’ STUDIES AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN GYNAECOLOGIC ONCOLOGY

I. Matišáková, J. Bielik, B. Bystrický, V. Meluš

Health technology assessment is becoming an important part of comprehensive evaluation of clinical and cost effectiveness of health interventions. In this article, we illustrate examples of the use of health technology assessment in three different scenarios. The first study is to model the predicted impact of human papillomavirus vaccination from a 40-year perspective. After vaccinating a 12-year-old female population, we can expect significant reductions in mild, moderate and severe dysplasia, uterine cervical cancer and death related to cervical cancer. The second study is a study of the quality of life in patients with breast cancer. The third study is a study of quality of life in patients with ovarian cancer. Second and third studies were carried out by an original questionnaire developed by the Faculty of Health of Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín. Both diseases have a significant negative impact on quality of life and the work ability. Cancer treatment has a significant positive impact on the quality of life as well as on the ability to work. The projection of quality of life into quality-adjusted life years can be an essential factor for drug policymakers when deciding on reimbursement.
